No Consequences

It has become brutally apparent that neither the G.O.P. House or Senate will take action against Trump. They have abandoned their constitutional duty to be a check and balance on the other two branches of our democracy. Their control of Congress and the Senate means there are going to be NO CONSEQUENCES for Trump, regardless of what laws he breaks. Manafort’s trial points out the fact that he would have been guilty on all 18 counts, except for a single juror who deadlocked 10 counts. Not surprisingly, the juror was a rabid Trump supporter, or so the interview of another juror went on Fox news.

The popularity of Trump among Republican voters is so high that no G.O.P. candidate will go against Trump. We cannot count on juries to convict anyone associated with Trump when a single juror can deadlock any trial. We are probably involved in the greatest threat to our democracy since the civil war. With everything going against the “rule of law” actually being carried out, there is one unstoppable solution.

Regardless of how popular Trump is with Republican voters. Regardless of how spineless the G.O.P. is in both houses. No matter what polls say, there are more Democrats and Independents combined than there are Republicans. Until we take back at least the House, but even better the Senate too, we are no longer a nation of law and order. We are a banana republic run by a corrupt leader and kept in power by a corrupt Congress.
